英国人把本国货币称为pound sterling，简称pound，而用dollar泛指英国以外地区的货币，如港元为Hong Kong Dollar，加拿大元为Canadian Dollar，澳大利亚元为Australian Dollar，这其中当然也包括美元，美元的全称是US Dollar。
