不能做动词，river只能用作名词，意思是“ 河；江；河流；水道”，当river专有名词时，其前面必须要冠词，比如the River Amazon（亚马逊河）。

但是在中国的江河英译时，一般是将专有名词放在river前面，比如the Changjiang River（长江）。Here the river takes an abrupt bend to the west.这条河在这里急转向西流去。The river rises from a spring.这条河发源于一处泉水。The river roared him to sleep.河流的奔腾声使他入睡了。The river is rising after the rain.河水在雨后涨了起来。
