To count (or to recite numbers) in English, we use the verb "to count." The word "count" comes from the Latin word "computare," which means "to calculate." Here are some examples of how "to count" can be used in a sentence:
I will count the number of apples in the basket. (我要数一下篮子里的苹果数量。)
Can you count to ten in English? (你能用英语数到十吗?)
The teacher asked the students to count by twos. (老师让学生们按二算。)
Note: The verb "to recite" (背诵) is often used in the context of reciting a poem or passage, rather than reciting numbers. For example, "The student recited the poem for the class." (这个学生为班级背诵了这首诗。)
